Olight has brought out an upgrade to the Warrior 3 – the Warrior 3S – which boasts a few improvements to its predecessor…

Let’s have a look to see if these changes are worth spending your hard-earned money on.

The output specification is the same between the 2 models, with both boasting a maximum output of 2300 lumens and a maximum throw of 300m.

We’ve extensively reviewed the Warrior 3 previously, so in this post I’m only going to be looking at the differences between the two models.

Beam Quality

The beam quality is the same as the Warrior 3 and again have a look at the Warrior 3 review to read our thoughts in relation to this.

Differences Between Models

Proximity Sensor

The Warrior 3S has a proximity sensor that the previous version doesn’t have.

The proximity sensor detects nearby obstructions and automatically dims the higher output modes when this happens, thus reducing the risk of it overheating and causing a fire.

If the blockage continues for more than 60 seconds, then the light will switch off.

The sensor can be disabled by rapidly double-clicking the side switch within 5 seconds after the automatic dimming, then the brightness will return to the original level.

Turning the torch off will reactivate the proximity sensor.

Bezel

The Warrior 3S features a less aggressive strike bezel than the Warrior 3.

This makes it a lot more comfortable to carry.

Conclusion

So, these are the only differences between the two models.

The proximity sensor is a very useful safety feature that could potentially prevent dangerous situations.

I found the bezel on the original Warrior 3 to be very uncomfortable… I normally like to clip my torch to my cargo trouser pocket and whenever I would go to get it out, the harsh bezel would dig uncomfortably into my skin – the softer bezel on the Warrior 3S is much more comfortable.

If you could only have one torch ... this is it. The Warrior 3S. Ive had many many torches over the years including several from Olight, including the Warrior mini 2 .. a great torch, but the 3S is the Boss. Easily carried bezel down in front trouser pocket you really forget it's even there and it goes with me everywhere. The weight and size is perfect to make for a hammer strike for defense or break glass should the need arise. The light output, throw and ease of functionality is truly assume.
